A farmhouse near Freshwater Cove, completed in 2007 with architect David Kariel .
This three bedroom, modern farmhouse cottage was carefully designed to fit in with its site and to take advantage of the spectacular views of the Blue Ridge mountains. Inspired by traditional farmhouse-cottages of the region and the principles of the Not So Big house, the client asked us to make the most of a modest budget while planning ahead for future improvements to the house and landscape. This design provided the owner with the house that meets her needs at the present and can be adapted over time.
The wraparound porch provides outdoor room in which to enjoy the landscape and also encourages the owner to work outside.
A new landscape design is currently in progress by Sketchwell Architecture and Design. Terraces will augment the existing outdoor entertainment areas and will include an outdoor fireplace and kitchen area, as well as a swimming pool with bluestone terrace.
